Our current solution is to have a link displayed in /users/ to our ldap 
directory server so users can also get information of a user directly 
from our ldap servers.

But, a better solution could be to mix ldap and db informations when the 
ldap plugin is active. Getting information from a user (like the 
/users/) could first query the db but with a hook also the ldap.
