I've been using the ldap plugin from the trunk version with fusionforge 
4.8 and made it work.
Looking at your problem, it seems fixed in the trunk as the line is now :
$this->ldap_server = $GLOBALS['sys_ldap_host'] ;

The plug in references "$sys_ldap_server" which doesn't appear to be set 
anywhere. 

/opt/gforge/plugins/ldapextauth/include/LdapExtAuthPlugin.class.php:  
$this->ldap_server = $sys_ldap_server ;
